Kicking Out | 40 x 40cm

There's a particular moment when a surfer finishes a ride and kicks out of the wave, breaking free of its face as the water carries on around them.
I love watching these little manoeuvres.
They can happen in a split second, with the surfer disappearing into the spray before emerging back into the open water.
I wanted to capture that sudden burst of movement — the figure lifting away from the turquoise wave, surrounded by whitewater and flying spray.
Surfing is full of moments like this. You blink, and they're gone, which is all the more reason to watch closely.
